The Gutbucket Band has been playing the blues scene around Britain for over 12 years with David Paynter (Guitar and Vocals) leading the band from strength to strength. David plays his Fender Strat through a Blues De-Ville amp and is the driving force behind the band’s success. Though he never wished to be a singer and was quite content to be just the guitar player, circumstances forced a situation where he had to take on the job and he now provides a powerful vocal for the band.
Despite many changes to the line up the principle of playing good solid R & B has been the guiding light for this 5 piece band from Swansea, South Wales.
The band now comprises of David up front with Phil Jones providing the clever stuff on lead guitar. Phil has been around the block (musically) he trained as a Jazz guitarist and developed his skills by extensive touring and working with a range of musicians from Big Bands on Cruise Ships to small combo’s in Jazz Clubs His guitar playing is as good as it gets He plays a 335 guitar through one of the smallest amps I have ever seen, but “is it loud”!!!!.
The rhythm section comprises of Roger Miles on bass and Foxx (with 2 X’’s) on drums.
Roger has been around for longer than he would like to admit, but his depth of musical knowledge is a real asset to the band. Like Phil he has played his 1962 Fender Jazz bass in a range of bands playing any kind of music from cabaret and popular music to Jazz but he always gravitates back to his true love, R & B.
Foxx on drums is Japanese and came to Britain over 12 years ago. He is a truly passionate drummer and his love of percussion in general has earned him the respect of musicians all over the world. He is regularly asked to tour with international artistes in Britain and on the continent of Europe and when he is not playing he teaches percussion and is in great demand as a tutor.
The final member of the band is Russell Kneath. Russell is a double graduate in French and computing but his only real interest, apart from an occasional tipple, fags and a fanatical support of Manchester United, is music. Like the other members if this band he has extensively toured in Britain and in Europe, has many recording credits to his name. Again he just loves to play.
The band has played at most of the main Blues festivals around Britain with appearances at the Great British Blues Festival at Colne and the Burnley Festival and many more. They recently played at the Dragon Blues Festival in Wrexham, North Wales.
With a mixture of original music and covers, the band provides a lively and exciting performance with nothing held back. The Gutbucket Band will set your feet tapping and get an audience out of their chairs and onto the dance floor.
